UPDATE: It seems a lot of people think that it's some sort of illusion, but you can clearly see (even in slow motion) there was no pre-perforating or anything like that. Also, it doesn't hurt at all. There's no jagged edges to catch your finger on, since it's a nice clean pop that follows the contour of your thumb. We have done this time and time again, in other people's houses with other people's beers, and we even teach them how to do it. Granted, it takes a little time to get it right, but once you get the "feel" for it (where to put your thumbnail), it's almost always a sure-fire success.
